About the FIATA Diploma
The FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding is now available to people currently employed in the freight forwarding and supply chain industry. This course is designed, administered and delivered by the Irish International Freight Association.
Freight Forwarding is the business of deciding the best modes and methods for moving specific goods according to a specific requirement. As a major part of supply chain management (SCM), it's the know-how that makes SCM happen according to plan, and more especially when events don't happen as planned.
Flexibility is the hidden word in freight forwarding and this can only be attained through knowledge of all transport modal options. This course supplies that knowledge.
The FIATA Diploma has been available with the IIFA since 2008 and the 2011 course was the first to be delivered Online. Please see below for further information on the structure of the new web based course or click here to jump to the information.
Increased professional knowledge - This will enhance the freight forwarding and supply chain services offered by you and your company. This programme encompasses all aspects of freight forwarding encountered on a daily basis in the various operational areas of freight forwarding.
Course material is timely and highly relevant - The course content and delivery is regularly validated by FIATA (The International Federation of National Freight Forwarding Associations).
No interruption to normal working hours - The Blended Learning approach means that applicants will not have to leave the office during business hours for training. The combination of distance learning with periodical tests will ensure successful completion of the course by the participants.
Full support and guidance throughout - Students will have ready access to an expert editorial panel and an e-mail helpline to ask questions during the course. There will be help and encouragement available to participants throughout the course.
Accessible anywhere – Webinars and online tests are delivered through the internet enabling participants to log on from anywhere in order to participate. This development saves participants much time in eliminating the need to travel and offers great flexibility for those who need to undertake international travel on a regular basis.

What Topics are covered?
The FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding consists of nine modules on the following topics:
During the early years of the IIFA FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding, the IIFA received many requests for training from member firms based outside Dublin who could not make the travel commitments. In response to this we tried and tested delivery of the course Online. Such trials were well received by the participants, with the majority of the participants preferring the Online approach. A web based system now allows us to offer training on a national scale and thereby offer a better service to all our member firms.
Who should attend the course?
The course is designed to raise levels of professional competence in our industry to the highest standards possible, and as such is suitable for managers, supervisors, and front line staff across all company functions and modes. Additionally this course can also serve as a method of fast-tracking new entrants to the business, allowing such people to build their careers with a solid foundation.
How long will it take to complete?
There will be 9 webinars held over the total period of 10 months. As the course is delivered Online, study time is at the discretion of the applicant. Previous participants have told ua that on average they spent 7/8 hours a week per module to feel confident before undertaking each of the tests and the final exam. The test of each module will consist of a combination of multiple choice questions and assignments.
