Invitation to see the future?

See what is possible on Thursday February 25th 2010, Davenport Hotel, Merrion Sq., Dublin.
Since April 2008 the Irish International Freight Association has been involved in studying the prospects in Ireland for a Cargo Community System that would enable both private and public freight professionals in the logistics community to manage all import and export processes of goods.
Having had in depth discussions with Customs and with Dublin Port and Docks IIFA now wishes to inform as broad an audience as possible on the subject.
Everyone interested in the most efficient and up-to-date communications methods employed in port and airport logistics are invited to a presentation by Marseille Gyptis International on Thursday February 25th in the Davenport Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin of their Cargo Community System which is entitled AP+.
AP+ is the most up to date Cargo Community System.
It provides a link between all private and public professionals from a logistics community to manage all import and export processes of goods.
The system optimises, organises, pilots and secures all supply chain processes of a cargo community so as to better manage and monitor the movement of all type of goods.
This would include air cargo as well as all surface cargo.
It is a system for operators within the community and through which everyone can add their information to the system according to their role in the supply chain. The information is shared so that everyone can track and trace the movement of the goods in real time along with viewing the physical, administrative and customs status of the goods.
AP+ enables track and trace in real time of the flow of goods, whether physical, administrative or Customs-related. The information is integrated and shared by the operators in the community and this brings with it efficiencies in operations and vastly reduced communication and documentation costs. AP+ can be connected to partners' private systems and it incorporates new security and safety requirements.
Marseille Gyptis International - the company
MGI was created in 1985 through the initiative of port professional associations from the port of Marseille-Fos with the aim of creating a unified IT system.
The first Cargo Community System created was set up in 1989. Today, more than 20 years experience in the deployment of complex information systems for the logistics and freight transport industries, and activities in France and abroad, have enabled MGI to emerge as a key player in the field of international trade.
The design, production and operation of the "AP+" has enabled MGI to acquire a complete strategic overview of the situation coupled with field experience to meet the needs of all logistics communities.
The communities involved include those of ports, airports or multimodal hubs.
The presentation of AP+ under the auspices of the Irish International Freight Association will take place at the Davenport Hotel on Thursday 25th of February.
Registration will be from 8.30 am to 9am. The event is planned to finish around 11am.
Interested persons are requested to register beforehand by email to iifa@eircom.net as space is limited (Reference MGI/AP+)

Status of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO)
In recent weeks extra names have been added to the list of Authorized Economic Operators with operations in the transport and related fields in Ireland.
The most recent freight forwarder to gain the status of AEO is Celtic Forwarding on 4th of this month. This brings to eight the number of firms engaged in forwarding and logistics who have achieved the status of AEO.
Another well known Irish firm in the area of Customs Compliance- Customs Matters achieved that status on 16th of December 2009 and in Shipping MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is the sole representative on the list, so far. (See below for more complete list).
The status of Authorised Economic Operator is valid in all countries of the European Union and is not limited in time. This status can be awarded in 3 different versions:
*AEO-Certificate "Customs Simplifications" (AEO-C) *AEO-Certificate "Safety" (AEO-S) *AEO-Certificate "Customs Simplifications/Safety" (AEO-F).
The idea of this certification is to control global companies and to assure that those companies become safe market participants. It is planned that the status AEO will be introduced all over the world.
This status not only exists in the European Union; a similar status exists already in the United States of America concerning import (C-TPAT: Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism). The target of the WCO is to create this status in all other countries.

Ireland donates €200k for developing countries
The World Trade Organization has announced that Ireland donated €200,000 to the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) , a program set up to help developing countries improve their expertise and their capacity to analyze and implement international standards on food safety and animal and plant health. The STDF is a joint initiative of the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the World Organization for Animal Health, and the Food and Agriculture Organization. The new donation brings Ireland's overall contribution to WTO trust funds to approx. €6 million. WTO Directory General Pascal Lamy welcomed Ireland's donation "which will facilitate developing countries' integration in the global economy and will allow longer term programs to be implemented." Mr. Declan Morrin, Charge d'Affaires at the Irish Mission said "Improving developing countries' capacity for analysis and implementation of international SPS standards is key to gain and maintain market access. This contribution is part of Ireland's continuous efforts to assist developing countries in taking a greater part in the world economy and use trade for growth and poverty reduction."
