BAM UK & Ireland marks major milestone as first barge carrying Narrow Water Bridge structures arrives from Belgium

The first barge carrying major steel components for the landmark cross-border bridge has arrived at Warrenpoint Harbour in Northern Ireland following a journey from Belgium. BAM UK & Ireland is preparing to install approximately 2,245 tonnes of steel structures for the new 195-metre bridge connecting Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Stena Line to acquire vessel and make changes to its network

Stena Line has reached an agreement to acquire the RoRo vessel Somerset from CLdN. Subject to closure and transfer, the vessel would begin operating on the Dublinâ€“Liverpool route for Stena Line in early December. As part of the changes, the ferry company will deploy its own vessels on the Rotterdamâ€“Harwich route.

Members of the UK P&I Club, and the TT Club have voted strongly in favour of merging the two organisations to create the first transport mutual to span the entire cargo supply chain. Together, the group will cover maritime, logistics, ports and terminals industries.

GEODIS expands TAPA security certification across Germany, the UK and Sweden

GEODIS obtained TAPA certification for five further European sites. These include the contract logistics centers in Cologne, Rodgau, Aurach (Germany), and in Gothenburg (Sweden), as well as the warehouse and distribution center in Manchester (United Kingdom).

Revenue advises online shoppers of the introduction by the European Union (EU) of a new Union Handling Fee for goods bought from outside the EU

On 29/09/2026, Revenue advised consumers who shop online of a further change to Customs arrangements for goods bought from outside the EU (including Great Britain). From 1 November 2026, the EU will introduce a new Union Handling Fee of â‚¬2 per distinct item, which businesses that file Customs declarations for eCommerce packages will pay. It relates to goods purchased online from non-EU countries and shipped to consumers in Ireland and other EU Member States.

IIFA open Nominations for the 2027 Young Irish Freight Forwarder of the Year Award

Nominations are now open for the 2027 Young Irish Freight Forwarder of the Year Award. The competition acts as the selection process for Irelandâ€™s Candidate for the annual FIATA global Young Logistics Professional Award (YLP). The winner of the Irish competition will be nominated by IIFA to represent Ireland in the 2027 FIATA YLP, showcasing Irish freight forwarding on an international stage.

EU Customs Reform marks a new era for customs in Europe

The EU Customs Reform has entered into force, marking the start of a better, smarter and simpler customs system across the EU. Following formal adoption by the Council of the European Union and European Parliament, the reform was published in the Official Journal last Saturday and will be gradually implemented as from today.

Approved-Haulier Requirement for Secure Air Cargo Takes Effect In 2027

From 01 January 2027, road transport of secured air cargo and mail within the EU secure supply chain may only be carried out by a regulated agent, a known consignor, or an approved haulier. The current system, under which regulated agents and known consignors can appoint carriers through a signed haulier declaration, will therefore come to an end.

Norway Introduces Mandatory Digital Customs Reporting

Norway is taking the next step in the digitalisation of its customs procedures. From 15 September 2026, transport and consignment information for goods entering Norway must be submitted digitally through Digitoll. A second major change will follow on 1 March 2027, when customs declarations must be lodged no later than the moment the goods cross the Norwegian border.

New ID Requirements for Stena Line

From Monday 28 September 2026 passengers travelling between Holyhead and Dublin or Fishguard and Rosslare will now need to show their passport on departure. No other forms of ID will be accepted. All passengers will be required to show their passport or passport card, regardless of age or nationality.
